History

Created in 1875 by Camille Féron-Vrau, a doctor and an entrepreneur and Philibert Vrau, an industrialist, Université Catholique de Lille is the largest private non for profit university in France.
From 3 original faculties (Law, Humanities and Sciences), the Université Catholique de Lille grew quickly and opened 2 more faculties (Medical sciences and Theology) and later on 3 schools (Midwifery, Engineering and Agriculture) - already covering a large range of disciplines. In 1973, in response to the national social crisis and to the internal structural critical situation,
faculties and schools were reorganised according to a proposal written by Michel Falise: the Fédération Universitaire et Polytechnique de Lille (FUPL) was born. This federative organisation remained since. Today, the Université Catholique de Lille federates 17 schools, 5 faculties, 9 health and medico-social establishments and offers 354 degree programs to its 42.000 students
