Founded 1963 as Kennesaw Junior College. Acquired four-year college status in 1978 under the name Kennesaw College. In 1985, approved to award master degrees and institution changed name to Kennesaw State College. Acquired current title and status 1996. Merged with Southern Polytechnic State University in 2015.
